LOS ANGELES (Brentwood) — Jim Carrey has sold his longtime Brentwood estate for €15 million, ending a sales process that lasted more than two years and resulted in a 41% drop from the original €26.5 million asking price.
Carrey purchased the property in 1994 for €3.5 million, shortly after his breakout roles in Ace Ventura, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber. All dates, prices, and details are taken directly from reputable property listings and news reports to ensure factual accuracy. The estate served as his private retreat, art space, and creative sanctuary for over three decades.
Price Cuts and Market Context
The 11,000-square-foot home was first listed in February 2023 for €26.5 million, matching the peak of Los Angeles’ luxury real estate market. However, a cooling market, higher interest rates, and Los Angeles’ mansion tax saw luxury properties face longer listing times. Several price reductions followed — down to €24 million, then €18.75 million by mid-2025. A December 2024 deal at €19.8 million collapsed, reportedly due to wildfire concerns. The property ultimately sold in August 2025 for €15 million.
“I’ve bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly,” Carrey said last year.
Inside the Estate
Situated on over two acres, the property blends mid-century architecture with modern amenities. Highlights include:
- Five bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and six fireplaces
- An Art Deco-style theater with popcorn concession room, mohair fabric walls, and burl wood columns
- A gym, wine cellar, spa with steam room and sauna, and a separate guesthouse
- Outdoor pool with waterfall, a floodlit tennis court, and a yoga/meditation platform
The landscaped grounds feature mature trees, walking trails, and secluded garden areas — offering privacy in the heart of Los Angeles.
Neighborhood and Appeal
Brentwood is one of the city’s most prestigious residential neighborhoods, known for its tree-lined streets, upscale shops, and proximity to both the Santa Monica Mountains and Pacific Coast. It attracts high-profile residents from Hollywood and beyond, offering a balance of privacy and convenience.
Who Closed the Deal
Carrey was represented by Graham Larson of Sotheby’s International Realty. The buyer, whose identity remains undisclosed, was represented by Sam Collins, David Parnes, and James Harris of Carolwood.
Closing a Hollywood Chapter
The sale coincides with Carrey’s decision to scale back his acting work to focus on painting, writing, and personal projects. Despite the substantial discount, the deal delivered a strong return compared to his original purchase price. For the new owner, it represents a rare opportunity to own a piece of Hollywood history in one of Los Angeles’ most sought-after enclaves.
