Property Taxes in France. What Taxes Are There on Acquisition, Ownership, and Sale

For some residents, Paris is becoming less attractive, leading them to choose other provincial cities or nearby suburbs.

The city’s appeal has been impacted by the Covid crisis, during which the number of people interested in buying property in Paris dropped by 30%. This decline is partly due to the rise of remote work, which has reduced the need for many to commute into the city. The pandemic also caused some Parisians to reconsider their priorities, focusing more on personal well-being. Concerns about the quality of life — such as environmental pollution, overcrowding, and limited space — have slightly reduced the city’s attractiveness.

To cut costs and/or save space, many Parisians are deciding to leave the capital and move to neighboring towns. The expansion of the Île-de-France transport network further supports this trend, as more peripheral cities are now connected to Paris, with commuting times tending to decrease.
